Shoe Fly
2618 Wison Blvd.
Arlington, 22201

In September 2003, Jennifer Marfino of ShoeFly approached Mr. Nalin Jain at the Arlington SBDC, looking for support and guidance before she signed a lease to start ShoeFly - a fun, funky store selling men's and women's shoes and accessories in Clarendon. Her Business was operational a few months later in November and she has already begun to see repeat business and received rave reviews from the community. Since opening, ShoeFly has been mentioned regionally and nationally in Washingtonpost.com, Cosmopolitan (Girl) Magazine, Where Magazine, and Lucky Magazine for their unique styles and eclectic stock.

Nalin Jain, Director of Arlington Small Business Development Center at GMU counseled Jennifer and explained the statistics related to new businesses and the reasons for failure. Jennifer made good use of a very valuable spreadsheet developed by the Arlington SBDC that allowed her to forecast profit and loss throughout the year that made her conclude that opening this business would a beneficial move for both her and the community.

"Nalin knew all the statistics. He encouraged me to use that spread sheet to figure both the lowest and highest projected revenue for the year. I would like to thank Nalin, Paul Hall, Raghava Karanam and the staff at Arlington SBDC for providing this free service to the community. The benefits of the services provided are immeasurable",
